There are two ways to browse TreeBASE: with frames and without frames.

[Browse with Frames]

Browsing with frames is best viewed with a monitor of at least 800 by 600 pixels. The position of the frame dividers are adjustable to accommodate different browser types, so start by tailoring them to your needs (click on a frame divider and drag in one way or the other).

Basic Procedure:

  • A. Enter a keyword, select what to search on, and click the "Enter" button (never hit the "Return" key in TreeBASE -- always click on a button).
  • B. Select what you want from the shortlist, and then click "Search."
  • C. To view a tree, click on that tree's name.
  • D. Click on a taxon (or clade) to search on this item. Return to step "B".

[Browse Without Frames]

This feature produces three separate windows without frames. Resize and rearrange them on your screen to suit your needs. The flow of data is otherwise the same as with frames.
