abstract = {As a colorful-leafed ornamental maple tree, Acer negundo L. is widely grown across China. In 2017, some trees in Pizhou, Jiangsu Province showed symptoms of wilting. Leaves of diseased trees appeared brown, wilted and wrinkled, the roots had rotted, the xylem and phloem had become discolored. Investigations indicated that the disease spread rapidly and that the infection rate was high. The outbreak period was from July to August, which suggested that the high temperatures in summer had no inhibitory effect on the occurrence of the disease. The pathogenicity test showed that a fungus isolated from the discolored vascular tissues at a high frequency, which was named An7, could lead to 100% mortality of healthy 2-year-old seedlings following inoculation. Different sizes of conidia, chlamydospores and conidiophores were observed. Molecular analysis of the partial sequences of the rDNA internal transcribed spacer, intergenic spacer region and mitochondrial small subuni, and the translation elongation factor 1-α was carried out in combination with evaluation of morphological parameters, to achieve reliable identification of the pathogen. The pathogen was identified on morphological and molecular grounds as Fusarium oxysporum. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. oxysporum causing wilt on A. negundo in China. project name:The National Key Research and Development Program of China project number:2017YFD0600104}
