Abstract
Bayesian, maximum likelihood and maximum parsimony phylogenetic inferences on the ITS sequences for a comprehensive sampling of Orbilia aurantiorubra and related species support the conclusions from morphological studies according to vital taxonomy. Thus, the variability of the molecular and morphological data assessed relative to ecological features such as substrate and geographical origin suggest the existence of three new species related to Orbilia aurantiorubra, which are described in this paper: Orbilia xanthoguttulata from Europe, O. succulenticola from the Canary Islands (Macaronesia bioregion), and O. jugulospora from Ethiopia (Africa) and Taiwan (Southeast Asia).
Keywords
Orbiliomycetes, Europe, Macaronesia, biodiversity, taxonomy.
