abstract = {The subfamily Centromochlinae, with more than 30 species in three genera, is recognized as monophyletic, and redefined based on synapomorphies. The status of the group and a revision of characters previously proposed in literature are discussed. The genera Glanidium, Tatia, and Centromochlus are defined as monophyletic units. Glanidium, with six species, is identified as the sister group of a clade formed by the other two genera. Tatia, known as a paraphyletic assemblage of 17 species by previous authors, is herein restricted to eight species and recognized as the sister group of Centromochlus. Centromochlus, previously consisting of two easily distinguished forms, is expanded to include nine species. Gelanoglanis is placed as a junior synonym of Centromochlus. Based on the given synapomorphies for each group, diagnoses are proposed for Glanidium, Tatia, and Centromochlus.}
